Dr. Marco Lawandy, DO, MS

Director of Interventional Pain Management

Dr. Marco Lawandy is an Interventional Pain Management physician focused on restoring function, relieving pain, and returning patients to the activities that matter to them.

His practice centers on non-operative and minimally invasive treatment of the spine, joints, nerves and muscles from acute injury through long-standing pain that has not responded to earlier care. He works from a precise diagnosis first, using ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance to identify and treat the source of pain, then builds a stepwise plan that can range from therapy and activity modification to image-guided injections, radiofrequency ablation and neurostimulation.

Appointments are available in West Orange, East Rutherford and Paramus locations.

Conditions We Treat

  • Neck Pain

Persistent neck pain from muscle strain, joint irritation, or nerve compression can limit movement and disrupt daily life and work.

  • Back Pain

Chronic or acute back pain often stems from the spine, muscles, or nerves, and responds well to targeted, minimally invasive care.

  • Sciatica

Sciatica causes sharp, radiating pain from the lower back down the leg, usually from nerve irritation or compression along its path.

  • herniated-disc

    Herniated Disc

A herniated disc occurs when the cushion between spinal bones presses on nearby nerves, causing pain, numbness, or weakness in the limbs.

  • spine

    Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis narrows the spaces within the spine, compressing nerves and causing pain, numbness, or weakness in the back and legs.

  • Degenerative Disc Disease

As spinal discs wear down with age or injury, they can cause chronic back pain, stiffness, and reduced flexibility over time.

  • Facet Arthritis

Facet arthritis develops when the small joints connecting spinal bones become inflamed, causing localized stiffness and back pain that worsens with movement.

  • Sacroiliac Joint Pain

Sacroiliac joint pain occurs when the joint linking the spine and pelvis becomes irritated, causing lower back or hip pain.

  • Radiculopathy

Radiculopathy occurs when a compressed spinal nerve causes pain, numbness, or weakness that radiates into the arms or legs.

  • Post-Surgical Spine Pain

Pain that continues or returns after spine surgery can be complex, often requiring a fresh evaluation to find its true source.

  • Arthritis and Joint Pain

Arthritis and joint pain can limit mobility and make everyday activities difficult, especially as inflammation builds up around affected joints.

  • Tendonitis and Bursitis

Tendonitis and bursitis cause pain and swelling around joints from overuse or irritation of tendons and the fluid-filled bursae nearby.

  • Nerve Pain and Neuropathy

Nerve pain and neuropathy can cause burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness that disrupts daily function and quality of life.

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex regional pain syndrome causes intense, ongoing pain, often after an injury, that’s disproportionate to the original cause or trauma.

  • Chronic Migraine

Chronic migraine causes frequent, debilitating headaches that disrupt daily life, work, sleep, and the ability to function and concentrate normally.

  • Spasticity

Spasticity causes muscle stiffness and involuntary contractions, often after neurological injury, that can limit movement, comfort, and everyday independence.

Procedures Performed

Interventional spine, joint and nerve procedures — performed in the operating room or ambulatory surgery center, and in office at the time of evaluation.

  • Epidural Steroid Injections

Fluoroscopically guided interlaminar and transforaminal injections of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, plus selective nerve root and intradiscal injections.

  • Facet Procedures & Radiofrequency Ablation

Medial branch blocks and facet joint injections, followed by radiofrequency ablation — including sacroiliac joint injection and ablation — for lasting relief of axial neck and back pain.

  • Fluoroscopic & Ultrasound-Guided Nerve Blocks

Medial branch blocks and facet joint injections, followed by radiofrequency ablation — including sacroiliac joint injection and ablation — for lasting relief of axial neck and back pain.

  • Joint, Bursa & Tendon Injections

Occipital, suprascapular, axillary, intercostal, genicular, cluneal and pudendal blocks, stellate ganglion and lumbar sympathetic blocks, and carpal and tarsal tunnel injections.

  • Neurostimulation & Minimally Invasive Spine

Trial, implant and revision of spinal cord, dorsal root ganglion, peripheral nerve (SPRINT) and multifidus (ReActiv8) stimulators, plus Intracept and MILD decompression.

  • Chronic migraine, spasticity management, and cosmetic applications.
